In the world of watch-making the years of existence are mostly measured in hundreds. This year - 2006 - one of the most famous watchmakers - Montblanc - celebrates its first century on the market.

Montblanc is not just a watch-making company but a manufacturer of elegant and classy leather products (such as bags, purses and others), jewelry, eyewear and different luxurious writing instruments. Throughout the year Montblanc has issued different limited edition items, to celebrate this great event. For example in the beginning of the year there came out a pen, which was meant to be sold for 120,000 euros. It was called the Montblanc 100 Years Solitaire Mountain Massif Skeleton 2006. It was a skeletonised pen made of 18 karat white gold, of 1277 white diamonds and 123 very rare blue diamonds.

Harry Winston designs watches that are anything but ordinary. Besides timepieces with precision timekeeping and precious stones the famous watch manufacturer created a masterpiece that sings. The masterpiece is called the Westminster Flying Tourbillon. This watch was designed to honor the new boutique of Harry Winston opened in London.

Among the timepiece’s features, besides the tourbillon, one may find a minute repeater - the main aspect of the watch. The minute repeater chimes notes similar to the ones on the clock tower on the Palace of Westminster. Westminster Flying Tourbillon includes 4 cathedral gongs that are fixed around the movement. The four gongs play four notes in the tune of Westminster chime.

The watch is able to work for 70 hours without being winded and its movement can be seen through the case back which in its turn is covered by a sapphire crystal. There are only 8 examples of the 18 carat rose gold and gem-set timepieces of this kind. Westminster Flying Tourbillon is a watch that was manufactured to celebrate the new store in London and it is a model added to Harry Winston’s Ocean collection.

The famous Swiss watch brand Chopard is very famous for its incredible timepieces of various shapes, designs and styles but the common thing is that they all have precision timekeeping movements created in Chopard’s factories. In 2006 the Chopard Manufacture situated in Fleurier achieved ten years of its existence. During these ten years the factory was able to design five calibres. These movements, for which Chopard had spent 30 million Francs, have earned the ISO certification.

Today the factory includes more than 100 workers and continues developing new models and calibres for the market of fine watches. The LUC movements have already become popular among watch manufacturers but in the past the factory used to create movement blanks and was called “Fabrique d’ebauches de Fleurier” and it played a great role in Ebauches S.A. company.

A New Suggestion to the Modern Divers

Omega, one of the most highly appreciated producers of diver’s watches, has enriched the Planet Ocean line with the Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph. The chronograph’s predecessor, the Planet Ocean watch that represented originally designed and functional timepiece became a real sensation when it was introduced in 2005.

The idea of the modern Seamaster watch model was suggested by the legendary Seamaster 300 developed back in 1957. The initial Seamaster appeared at the same period of time when two other prominent Omega watches were launched.
